Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of natural blue in this hands-on workshop. Using freshly harvested indigo leaves, participants will explore the unique chemistry of botanical dyeing, transforming a white silk scarf into a delicate robin’s egg blue through the rhythmic process of “leaf massaging.”

In the studio, we will learn how this ancient plant yields its iconic color. Students will also experiment with tatakazome—the Japanese art of “hammer dyeing”—to create intricate leaf impressions directly onto fabric. You will also have the opportunity to add personalized stenciled designs using rolled indigo leaves and natural pigments.

Whether you are a seasoned textile artist or a curious beginner, you will leave with a stunning, one-of-a-kind silk accessory and the foundational skills to continue exploring sustainable, plant-based dyeing at home.

All art making materials are included.

Pre-registration is required by all. Price includes Museum admission.  Click here to become a member.
