Following Louis Comfort Tiffany: Artist of the Gilded Age, the Nassau County Museum of Art will launch a series of ongoing exhibitions featuring selections from its unparalleled collection of paintings by Louis Comfort Tiffany.
NCMA holds the largest and most extensive collection of Tiffany’s paintings in the Orientalist style, perhaps his most distinctive mode as a painter. Like other Americans of his era, amidst the backdrop of nineteenth-century Egyptomania and the 1869 opening of the Suez Canal, Tiffany perfected his depictions of West Asia and North Africa by extensive travel and immersion in their cultures. These paintings provide a window into the region through the eyes of arguably the greatest artist of the Gilded Age.
Louis Comfort Tiffany: Orientalism will include 20 works from the collection and complements two major exhibitions currently on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Orientalism: Between Fact and Fantasy and Designing the Gilded Age: Drawings from the Studios of Louis C. Tiffany.
The newly named Louis Comfort Tiffany Gallery will provide dedicated space to feature this new series of exhibitions, which will often reflect themes represented in upcoming exhibitions, including Glorious Gardens, which runs March 20 – July 11, 2027
