Superintendent's Conference Day

The Nassau County Museum of Art is pleased to announce that we will be offering a full-day professional development opportunity, open to K-12 teachers of all subject areas this Election Day.

This program will explore the current exhibition Louis Comfort Tiffany: Artist of the Gilded Age. This exhibition presents the full extent of the Museum’s Louis Comfort Tiffany painting collection for the first time, featuring over 130 oil and watercolor paintings from the Museum’s remarkable holdings. Also featured are a range of stained glass, furnishings, and decorative art objects, which offer a rare opportunity to explore the full breadth of Tiffany’s artistic vision — to see how his paintings served as a powerful catalyst for the originality, invention, and enduring beauty of his decorative arts. 

The day will begin with a catered continental breakfast, followed by time in the galleries, led by our museum educators, exploring his artworks as we engage in activities and discussions. After a break for lunch there will be a hands-on artmaking activity in response to the exhibition. An outdoor component encompassing our nature preserve and sculpture garden will be included, weather-permitting. 

This program will give teachers insight into the benefits of implementing the VTS (Visual Thinking Strategies) approach in their classroom as a way to encourage student engagement and build their self-confidence. Teachers will have an opportunity to consider how the qualities they encourage in their students foster their students’ development and to reflect upon how to navigate the changing demands of our current times.

Registration is required as space is limited. Fee includes breakfast and all supplies. We accept payment through BOCES, purchase order, cash, check or credit card. Participants will receive a certificate for 6 CTLE Hours upon completion of the program. The Nassau County Museum of Art is a NYSED CTLE Approved Provider.
