Get ready for an extraordinary summer of creativity, adventure, and exploration! Our Summer Art Lab program returns with four one-of-a-kind, week-long sessions, offering a unique blend of indoor and outdoor art-making experiences that you won’t find anywhere else.

This summer, young artists will draw inspiration not only from the Nassau Museum’s current exhibition but also from the stunning sculptures scattered across our 145-acre nature preserve. They’ll have access to beautiful nature trails, where the great outdoors becomes part of their creative journey. In addition, students will enjoy exclusive, private experiences in the museum itself, allowing for a truly immersive connection with art and history.

Whether wandering our serene trails or creating in the hands-on studio at the Manes Art and Education Center, Art Lab offers an inspiring space for young minds to thrive. Led by our talented educator Lauren, each session is thoughtfully designed to spark curiosity, challenge students with new materials, and push the boundaries of their creativity.

With experiences tailored to different age groups, there’s something for every young artist. Families can choose to sign up for one week or multiple weeks of exploration, with all art supplies included.

This program is truly unique—offering a combination of private access to the museum, the beauty of nature, and exciting art-making that can’t be replicated anywhere else. Don’t miss out on a summer full of imagination and unforgettable experiences!

Enrollment is limited to 15 students per session and pre-registration is required. Register for 1, 2, 3, or all 4 weekly sessions!

Week 1 (July 6-10) – Art From Your Own Backyard: Exploring Long Island Artists

Dive into the exciting world of Long Island art history! From Jackson Pollock’s splatter paint to Warhol’s Pop art, you’ll discover the wide range of styles that were created right in our own backyards! Use color, texture, and form to experiment with different techniques and find your voice as an artist! From the East to the West end, draw inspiration from the museum’s exhibition on Long Island artists. You’ll also have the chance to visit the museum to explore these pieces up close and spark your own creativity!

Week 2 (13-17) –  Nature Explorers: Art in the Wild

Explore how the magic of nature can be captured in art! Learn about the ways artists throughout history have embraced the many enchanting environments of the natural world. Whether creating plein-air drawings outside or recycling natural materials to experiment in the studio, you will discover how nature can be both a source of inspiration and a tool for exploration in the arts! From rare California Redwoods to native grasslands teeming with wildflowers, get inspired by the varied landscapes unique to our 145-acre nature preserve at NCMA! You will also explore our immense sculpture garden, including 43 large-scale sculptures in dialogue with nature, as inspiration for your own original artwork!

Week 3 (20-24) – Around the World: Travelling the Globe through Art

Take a journey around the globe through the wonderful world of art! From dot-painting inspired by Australian indigenous art to crafting Latin carnival masks, you’ll discover many approaches to artmaking and the fascinating cultures behind them! Each day will focus on a new region, culture, or artistic tradition to inspire artistic experimentation and learning! You’ll get the chance to explore our immersive sculpture garden with intriguing sculptures made by international artists, using them as inspiration for your own exciting creations!

Week 4 (27-31) – Light Quest: Discovering the Magic of Illumination

Explore the way light shapes our world! Become a “Light Explorer” on an exciting quest through different realms of illumination! Whether it be exploring the effects of sunlight to the glowing world of bioluminescence under the sea, you will discover the many ways light can be captured in art and inspire new creative approaches to self-expression! You’ll see the magical effects of light up-close when you visit our exhibition on Louis Comfort Tiffany’s paintings and stained glass, illuminating new ways we can blend color, light, and imagination as artists!
