Stanley Lewis is a distinguished American painter, teacher, and Guggenheim Fellow known for his richly layered, perceptual works that explore light and place through complex surfaces and on-site observation. His practice is deeply rooted in sustained looking and revision, emphasizing the physical and experiential process of painting. Lewis’s work has been exhibited widely, including major retrospectives such as at the Katzen Arts Center, and he is represented by the Betty Cuningham Gallery in New York.
