May We All Grow Up to be Children

June 28 – November 9, 2025

An immersive family exhibition entitled May We All Grow Up to be Children will transform the museum’s Gallery 5 for this special experience. It is based on the International Book Award Finalist for Children’s Literature, The Boy and the Boy King, with 26 works of art by George H. Lewis and co-written by George H. Lewis and A.D. Lubow.
The book and exhibition convey a magical story about the power of friendship and imagination. A boy from New York City named Arthur gets teased and scolded for spending too much time in his own imagination. One day, he and his imaginary friend Bun-Bun run away, travelling back in time to ancient Egypt. There, they meet the Boy King Tutankhamun, and they instantly begin to play as if they’d known each other forever – swinging over the Nile, sailing the river, shooting arrows into the desert sands, and riding chariots into the night sky. Armed only with friendship and imagination, the boys return to their respective worlds, prepared to wage peace, not war.
