Fashion has always evolved and changed with the times. When you have a movement as far reaching as the Art Deco Movement it is a given that fashion will be impacted- and also have an impact. The period saw extremely rapid advancement socially, culturally, and technologically. Studying the transition of fashion through the period gives us a special glimpse into people’s response to all of the changes. In this lecture we will first look at the design elements of Art Deco Fashion. What makes a garment part of the Art Deco Period? What elements are a transition that reflected the changes, and what novel elements were in conversation with the Zeitgeist of the time, specifically within the realms of design and culture? Art Deco Fashion continued to fascinate us over this last century. How has it influenced us over these decades? How has that influenced how we see it today?
